Our Story

WCC History

God started Wasatch Christian Church in 1993 when Roy, the worship leader at Vineyard Christian Fellowship, felt God calling him to plant a new church in Salt Lake City. He went to his leadership and asked them to pray for God's will. After several weeks in prayer, they confirmed what God was speaking to him. They held a service and commissioned him to go out with the churches blessing and plant a new Christian Church in the valley.

Wasatch Christian church was founded as Wasatch Christian Fellowship and focused on John 17:17 as its key verse and purpose.

John 17:17 NASU

“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.”

WCC is a non-denomination bible based Christian church.

Originally several families met in their homes for services. Soon they were able to work with Wheeler Historic Farm to hold services there on Sundays. WCC met there for many years; setting up and putting everything away each Sunday, enjoying the farm with Children's Sunday School and potluck meals after church, and reaching out to the community.

God would then change the course of WCC by calling the original pastor back to Tennessee in 1997. John, who had been the youth minister and been on the Board of Elders then became pastor. WCC enjoyed many more years at Wheeler Farm.

As the administrator of Wheeler Farm changed, God would move WCC to a new location on 2nd South in Salt Lake City. This would quickly change as the owner of the building decided to renovate the building into apartments.

God then provided WCC with an office space at its current location on Major Street. For several years the church laughed and joked about being "the church of sardines" as they packed into this small space for worship services every Sunday.

God blessed the church again by provided the opportunity to renovate and utilize an abandoned building next door to the office complex. The membership faithfully jumped in to clean out and build the old garage into a sanctuary. Bible verses were written and placed in the walls of the new construction for others to find in the future. Many men in the congregation also began being accountability partners for men in the recovery program at the Salt Lake Rescue Mission. Outreach was also done with missionary support, the Pregnancy Resource Center, neighborhood evangelism, and Operation Christmas Child.

Then in 2016, the members of WCC were blessed by God as they took ownership of both buildings as the church home. We continue to meet there today to celebrate our risen Savior, Jesus Christ, to teach and preach the Word of God, and to grow in spiritual maturity.

We invite you to come and join us as we pursue God’s will for our lives.
